Starter Kitchen Equipment
Aside from your standard pot and pan set here are the tools worth grabbing for the beginning home cook. Buy what you already have a need for, otherwise you're potentially wasting money and that is not sustainable for the home cook! Aside from the pieces mentioned, a small coffee grinder would serve well doubling as a spice grinder.
A few brief notes here:
1) Do NOT ever place your cast iron in the dishwasher. After each gentle wash and dry by hand, rub in a dab of cooking oil to coat the pan to prevent rust and season your cast.
2) For your cutting boards, use a plastic board for your meats and seafood. For produce, a wooden or bamboo board is your best option. Glass, marble, and other materials will not be kind to your knife blade. Cross-contamination must be prevented at all times in the kitchen. Having two cutting boards, one for meat and one for produce helps ensure you are preventing cross-contamination.
3) This list isn't the end all be all for your kitchen equipment, customize for your needs as you grow as a home cook.
